TV Time shuts down July 15. Hobi is the official migration partner

Why most TV Time importers drop your ratings (and how to keep yours)

Your ratings are part of how you remember a show. The most popular way out of TV Time quietly leaves them behind. Here is why, and how to keep yours.

When people leave TV Time they think about their watch history and their watchlist. The thing that catches them out a week later is the ratings, every reaction and score they gave shows and episodes over years of watching. Rebuilding those by hand is impossible, so it is worth understanding where they get lost before you move.

Why the common route drops your ratings

The most recommended migration path is TV Time into Trakt, because Trakt added an importer for people leaving TV Time. It is a solid route for your watch history and episode progress, with one catch that is easy to miss: Trakt's TV Time importer does not carry your ratings across. Your history arrives, but the scores do not. If ratings mattered to you, arriving to a blank slate is a real letdown.

How to keep your ratings

  1. Export your TV Time data first, and keep the file. Your original export holds your ratings, so as long as you have that file, your ratings are not lost, whatever route you take later. Here is the step by step export guide. Do this before July 15.
  2. Pick a tracker that actually tracks ratings. Not every app does. Hobi keeps your ratings as a first class part of a show's history, the same way TV Time did.
  3. Use an import path that preserves them. Hobi, the official migration partner for TV Time users, has its direct TV Time import live, and it reads your export file, ratings and all: in Hobi, open Settings and tap Import from TV Time, then upload the ZIP as is and your viewing history, watchlist and every rating come across in one go. That is exactly why step one matters: keep the export safe and it works forever, even after the shutdown. Start at hobiapp.com/tv-time.

The one question to ask before you switch

Whatever app you are weighing, ask two things: does it track ratings at all, and does its import keep them? If the answer to either is no, your scores are the part you will miss. Keeping your export file is the insurance policy that lets you fix it later regardless.
