We spent the past year rebuilding Hobi from the ground up. It is faster, it now tracks
movies as well as TV, and it finally does the things serious trackers have asked us for
over the years. Here is everything that is new, and where we are headed.
Hobi started more than ten years ago with one idea: give people who love TV a genuinely
pleasant place to keep track of it. The app grew to millions of people and billions of
episodes, and somewhere along the way it started to show its age.
So we did the scary thing. We tore it down and rebuilt the whole app from scratch. Every
screen is new, every interaction is retuned, and the foundation underneath is built to
carry the next ten years instead of the last. The new Hobi is here, and it is the best
version we have ever shipped.
We build Hobi with just the two of us. No investors, no outside owners, no one deciding
what the app becomes except the people who use it. Here is what is new.
What's new
These are the changes you will feel the moment you open it.
Rebuilt for speed
The entire app is new under the hood. Screens open instantly, scrolling stays smooth
with hundreds of shows, and everything simply feels lighter and quieter.
Movies, not just TV
Track films right alongside your shows in one library. Your watchlist, your history
and your stats now cover everything you watch, not only series.
Two-way Trakt sync
Connect Trakt once and Hobi keeps both perfectly in step. Mark an episode in either
place and it shows up in the other within seconds, in both directions.
Notifications that fire
A quiet heads up the day a new episode airs, when a season premieres, and when a long
awaited release date is finally announced. Reliable, and easy to fine tune.
Your history, your way
Backdate the episodes you watched weeks ago, mark a whole season watched up to a
point, log a rewatch, or set a show on hold or dropped without erasing it.
Private by design
We are independent and self funded, so your data is never sold and never mined. Two
people who love TV, answering to you and no one else.
Built on what you asked for
For years the biggest request from people who track seriously has been simple: let me
fix my history. Backdated watch dates, marking a season up to the episode you are
actually on, real on hold and dropped statuses that pull a show off your calendar
without deleting the years behind it. The new Hobi does all of that, because getting
your record right is the entire point of a tracker.
And if you are coming from another app, you are not starting from zero. From TV Time,
import your saved export straight into Hobi and your history, watchlist and ratings come
across in one go, ratings included. From anywhere else, connect Trakt and Hobi pulls
your full history across, then keeps the two in step from there.
What's coming next
The new foundation is what makes all of this possible. Since then a Discover home, with
For You picks, trending shows and movies and fresh releases, and a home screen widget
that puts your next episodes one glance away have both landed. Still on the way:
Your monthly summary. A simple, beautiful recap of everything you
watched, the way a year in review feels, every single month.
And plenty more, shaped by what you tell us you want.
If there is something you have always wanted in a tracker, tell us. We read everything,
and a lot of what shipped this year began as a message from someone in the community.
